As an established childcare provider based in Darlington, Acorn Care offers a range of services for looked after children of all ages from all over the North East. Having a children’s home and a Fostering Service we often work together to achieve our aim of providing young people with the opportunities and experiences that will enable them to achieve their full potential by giving them a positive start in life. We wrote earlier this year about a couple of instances where we had worked together with our Residential team to benefit a mother and baby placement and a troubled young boy whose foster placement had broken down. Well, this month we have another positive story to tell of how we have worked together to benefit the children and young people in our care.

It’s our mission to provide a firm foundation for the children we work with because we know how important firm foundations are. You can imagine our concern therefore when a 10 year old was referred who had lived in 13 foster homes in the last 18 months. Not an ideal scenario for anyone. We came to the conclusion that this little girl, who was extremely intelligent wasn’t best suited to a family environment, but needed the additional support and care that only a residential environment, like Baydale, can offer. This little girl is now doing amazingly well thanks to the team effort from Baydale. She now feels supported, but most of all secure in her new environment and the ‘company’ that is available to her offers the level of interaction she wants as and when it is needed.

Working in partnership with young people, their families and other professionals, we aim to create positive outcomes for each individual we come in contact with. Our focus is in line with the outcomes that matter most to children and young people and our values reflected that we work with some of the more vulnerable members of our society. Often, we provide care for young people who have experienced emotional, behavioural and/or learning difficulties, but we firmly believe that from small ACORNS, big oaks grow and that you’ll get what you expect, which is why we follow…
